Hello I work in a dental office and the majority of patients who want to whitening have really white teeth to begin with.

If you go to an office to get whitening they have an in-office done in a couple of hours and it is the best. However it cost $ 300-600. Not really worth other than it is fast results that last longer. The results vary for every patient. If your teeth look yellow they will lighten but if your teeth look more grey or brown you won't get good results.

Most offices also offer trays custom made for your mouth and will run you about $ 200-350. You wear the trays, like a mouthguard, for an hour day to overnight. Most people think this isn't bad but then they never wear them.

You can try over the counter for probably about $ 60. If I was to whiten this would be what I would do, unless you want to waste your money and go for the inoffice. You can buy a lot of strips for $ 600. Becareful because it can get addictive and you can ruin your teeth. You can also ask your dental office if the have strips that you can buy, like crest or listerine strips. They will be a little stronger in the office than over the counter.

As long as you are brushing your teeth regularly you can use certain electric toothbrushes that have different heads that help whiten teeth or brush on paste. The risk with using the trays is that some of the products can cause extreme sensitivity. You can see a dentist and they will be able to tell you all the alternatives.

Crest whitening strips. I believe you can get them for like 35 dollars at walmart or target. Also the new Crest 3D is pretty nice. Takes off surface stains in 14 days.

I love the Crest Whitestrips! You are supposed to use them twice a day, once in the morning and then again in the evening. Just use them as the directions say. I use them for 2 weeks at a time to avoid sensitivity, then a month or two after that I start another two-week regimen.
I wear mine in the tanning bed, that way you know how long they have been on, and the UV light accelerates the whitening (make sure to smile!)
There are different types with different prices. They are pretty expensive, if I remember. But if you really want to whiten your teeth, I would spring for it. I think they are somewhere around 30 bucks.

Ive actually used baking soda to whiten my teeth. It not poisonous for your teeth. You can just put it on your toothbrush and start brushing. But dont swallow the baking soda!

It's a cosmetic procedure not covered by your health/dental plan. It usually runs about $ 400-500 for custom trays and the bleaching solution. Alternatively, you can ask about professional strength whitening strips which are only a little more expensive than the ones in the stores, but a higher strength. They may be willing to order them for you.

It is because none of the good quality teeth whitening products damage the enamel. If you are really looking for teeth whitening, normal toothpaste probably isn't enough just by itself.

You paid $ 200 just for bleaching trays ??? You got ripped off !
Do yourself a favor and don't waste any money on bleaching products for your teeth. The over the counter stuff is not strong enough. Go to a dentist if you have to bleach your teeth. Keep in mind that crowns, caps, fillings and other dental work will stay the same color, they will not become lighter.
Look, people don't know that teeth are living organs (having blood vessels and nerves), they're not just pieces of bone stuck in your gums... The colour of the tooth comes from within (the dentin), the enamel is the outer layer that covers the dental crown and protects it. The bleaching affects the enamel creating the temporary illusion of "whiter teeth". Ever wondered why you need to bleach AGAIN ?
Oh, let's mention the hypersensitivity you're left with after bleaching, and doesn't always go away...
Working in a dental office I could have this (bleaching) done for free (zero, zip, zilch, nada) but I choose not to do it !...If people only knew...

If you want to make your teeth straight you have to visit a orthodontist. They will give you braces and other stuff to make then straight. To get them white you can visit a regular dentist and they can whiten them. Usually insurance will pay some of the cost but if you don't have a good insurance then they might not. braces may cost over 1000 dollars depending on how bad your teeth are. The dentist can make trays for your teeth and you sleep with the solution on - takes 14 days and they'll be whiter than a sheet of paper. Well worth the $ $ money - costs about $ 250.

Honestly, I've found that taking a small amount of half peroxide and half water and swishing it in your mouth works wonders. It may take a couple of days to notice but it works great. Just make sure you rinse with water well afterwards... And don't swallow!!!!

Be careful because brushing your teeth with baking soda more than once a week can cause serious damage to your teeth enamel. You might want to use whitestrips or an actual teeth whitening treatment instead. I found some free trials that I posted on my blog that work great. You can see how much of a difference they made on my teeth.
