Make a thick past of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. It helps to whiten teeth and keep gums healthy. Baking soda was used before toothpaste was readily available and will not harm the teeth, enamel or gums. I alternate between toothpaste and baking soda/peroxide because of very sensatitive teeth. A number of my family members have use baking soda/peroxide daily for years.
FYI baking soda does NOT whiten teeth. The whitening agent in teeth bleaching systems is the hydrogen peroxide. But regular hydrogen peroxide is not strong enough to do any bleaching at all. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide needed to bleach teeth is too high to be sold over the counter. The recipe you referred to is an excellent way to promote healthy gums, however. The baking soda reduces the acidity of the mouth and the hydrogen peroxide provides oxygen to the gums which reduces inflammation caused by periodontal disease or gingivitis (gum inflammation).

ReplyDeleteNot always; the baking soda sometimes doesn't make your teeth whiter.
